An original 1981 Atari Asteroids Deluxe Upright Arcade Game! Asteroids Deluxe is the sequel to the 1979 classic hit, Asteroids. This is the real deal folks, not to be mistaken for the cheap Arcade1Up toy found at Wal-Mart or Nebraska Furniture Mart. Many will agree that this sequel is superior to the original and significantly more challenging. Asteroids Deluxe. 

CONDITION:
This game has just went through a thorough restoration here at our store including the following done to it:
- Original cabinet artwork in great shape and minor touchups done to the exterior of the cabinet as needed. 
- Front of cabinet and coin door repainted. 
- Main PCB rebuilt by Frankencade Board Repair Service
- New "Big Blue" Capacitor installed on transformer/power brick
- Audio/Regulator II board rebuilt with new capacitors, diodes and transistors
- New control panel overlay installed along with new white push buttons. (a few minor bubbles on overlay along the top curve of control panel)
- New transparent blue film over monitor
- New bulb, ballast and starter for marquee illumination
- New correct white/black light bulb, ballast and starter for fluorescent background

The original vintage 19″ Electrohome GO-5 vector monitor picture looks bright, crisp and in focus with a great picture. Chassis rebuilt with new capacitors. Picture tube does show some minor Asteroids screen burn in, which is typical for a vintage arcade tube monitor which is only visible in a bright room.

DETAILS:
Like in the original Asteroids, the objective is to score points by destroying asteroids and flying saucers. The player controls a ship that can rotate left and right, fire shots straight forward, and thrust forward. When shot, larger asteroids break apart into smaller pieces and fly in random directions, while the smallest asteroids are destroyed when hit. Deluxe replaces the hyperspace feature with shields which deplete with use. This game also introduces the "Killer Satellite", a cluster of ships that break apart and chase the player's ship when hit. Objects "wrap" from each edge of the screen to the opposite edge (e.g. from the right edge to the left, or the top edge to the bottom), as in the original.

In addition to the shield feature and the Killer Satellite, the most significant change in this version of the game is that the flying saucers can now target the player's ship across the screen boundary - meaning that if the saucer is close to the left edge and the player is at the right edge, the saucer may shoot toward the left edge and across the boundary to hit the player since their ship is closer that direction. In Asteroids, the saucers could only fire directly at the player's location on screen without considering the boundary, which led to the popular "lurking" exploit that enabled players to play for very long periods of time on a single credit. This updated strategy was in direct response to that exploit.

Asteroids Deluxe works great, looks amazing and needs absolutely nothing.
